I actually remember seeing a game just like this on the google play store a loong time ago, like 8-9 years ago. It was called Annelids, a team-deathmatch sorta game where you dig around the map as little worms and use ropes to maneuver around.
If you check out the screenshots and video, the game has some details that sadly don't show in the browser version! Blood, explosions, dug dirt, cool stuff like that!

This is very cool and I would definitely play an entire game based around this mechanic
